If you have films that are already scanned into a digital format, we can improve your cine films' final image by using a combination of powerful video editing solutions designed to improve digital copy, reducing digital noise, flicker and other imperfections such as dust particles and scratches.
When you have had a cheap and cheerfully scan service copy your precious family films, they sometimes don't meet your expectations. All they did was load your film onto a scanner and sent you the resulting video file. Looking at these two images shows the difference between what you received and what you could have with the right equipment, software and a special set of skills.
We can work with your films from anywhere around the world
At the outset, let's make it clear that we can't turn a very bad film into a masterpiece. A film that is water damaged, badly over or underexposed, or very badly faded colours, will set challenges which we can't start to work on for the price we offer. If we are not confident we can make an improvement, we will contact you and discuss the options.
Have a look at the examples on this page, it will give you an idea of what you will achieve with our service.
If you look online you will find a few offerings of software that promise to fix all your problems. We have tried a few and they are not the answer. Our method involves at least three software packages that cost around £700.00 off the shelf. We have invested time in learning how to get good results by combining the best bits of each.
We reduce digital noise, flicker and other imperfections, dust and scratches and frame flicker filters reduce imperfections while preserving details. For this process, we use Apple computers running their M1 processor chips to work the vast amounts of data. Our software looks at your frame of film and compares it with two on either side. A spot of dust in the film will appear on one frame but not on the two on either side. The program then replaces the offending item and replaces the pixels with similar colours to those surrounding it. Every second of your film has between 16-18 frames to be inspected. And that's just on part of what's going on beneath the surface.
Your film can have a couple of issues, the first often being that the film dyes have faded in some colours faster than others. Have you ever noticed how bold the colour yellow is on some of your films? Some films can become oversaturated in colour and need calming down a little in some colours. Films were also developed for tungsten lighting and others for outdoor use. Using indoor film in sunlight would leave your film with a blue tint. These are some of the problems that we can attempt to improve in your films.
If you are considering the price for your films, please take into account that we do not use an online piece of software on your films, we have invested in fully licensed software for video, and its involves something we need to charge for, time and knowledge.
This short sample gives you an idea of what we can do for your film. Colour correction and noise reduction of the image leaves you with a film that is far more enjoyable to watch.
